in mr garden i found a huge mushroom about 7' across with a totally flat top and curved underside ,rather similar in shape to half a grapefruit,is it edible and safe?
If you have to ask then you're not an expert and I would say never ever eat a mushroom from the wild unless you're 110% sure what it is. And, lacking a photo, you'll not get a definite answer from anyone. By the way, who is Mr Garden anyway?
It sounds very much like a Horse Mushroom which is edible - but there is a very similar one that can kill if eaten, so I heartily endorse molly's words and never ever touch let alone eat any kind of fungi unless it has been ok'd by an expert.
I get huge 'mushrooms'? in my garden too but they are yellow stainers. If you touch the underneath and they go yellow they can give you a nasty tummy upset.
thanks to you all, for the answers and advice which i will take ,and stick to mushrooms from my local asda only 60p a punnet at least i can be sure of them
