Why Arnt Police Issued With P P E ?

Why arnt the Police issued with PPE?
Since the lockdown Ive seen a LOT more police about around town and none have masks or gloves. This morning I saw 4 police officers with a man who was being searched and only the officer searching him had gloves on but all four were in very close proximity to the man (no 2 metre distance rule there).
There have been a few cases in my local rag about scumbags getting jail sentences for coughing/spitting at police so surely an organisation that has to deal with this sort of thing should be issued with PPE?
I also dont understand why the police are still patrolling in pairs (in cars) with no protective equipment. Not only are the being a health hazard to each other but also the general public and the crims that they have to be in close contact with in order to arrest. (and vice versa)

You can though 237, The police that i saw this morning didnt have to 'crowd' around an individual. He was quiet compliant and eventually went on his way, no problem. If he did a runner, there were 4 officers ready to pursue.
I have to social distance in my job dealing with the public. Not always easy but do what we can. Gloves, sanitizers, distancing etc.
Not always easy but do what we can.
Just dont see ANY of it with police.

May or may not be relevant to this OP. When I served for a while on Traffic Division the Police Federation had to fight tooth and nail to get the latest full protection Full face visored motorcycle helmets. The reason the police would not initially issue them was that the public must see the face and lips of the officer when being spoken to. Safety of the officer and his safety was of secondary importance.
Eventually the procurement committee capitulated and allowed the BMW System helmet with a hinged chinguard which we had to raise when talking to the public. These helmets cost a fortune (BMW) and were useless as everyone I had could be pulled forward over my head without undoing the double straps.
The original Everoak Grand Prix was heavier but stayed on your head when put to the test.
Again the Police Federation tried to get spit masks available to all police officers. Again refused for spurious reasons. It appears that producing and wearing them would stereotype the very people who were actually doing the spitting and screaming out they had Hep or HIV. The police are totally a politicised organisation and one I am glad I am no longer part of due to educated idiots running the Police College of Excellence. Those wet behind the ears graduates who couldn't tie their own boot laces.

This is why Police don't wear PPE they can't eat their sweeties.
