At times it becomes difficult to move it around and windows start to stick on themselves - as in comping off the page to set up another window....?

That's anew one on me DT. Have you got another mouse to try?
can be a sign of a virus, have you done a virus scan?
Is your mouse wired or wireless? If wireless try changing the battery. Have you moved your laptop to a new location and are getting radio interference from something?
If it has a ball on the base. Normally this can be removed by rotating the holding plate around it. Do this and clear fluff and hair that accumulates around the ball socket. Replace in reverse order.

its a touchpad version..... may just have cleared....it's almost like the cursor wants to create little rectangles when back on the opening screen

ran a quick virus scan under Bullguard and nothing found.
