Today, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, has been declared International Nurses Day, and tributes are in order for the angels on the front line of the battle against the pandemic.
God bless them all.
Sadly, it is quite obvious that they have not had the support they deserve in their heroic work.
I hope the government recognise their value with more than mere words but give them a fighting chance to give us a fighting chance of getting through this, and also reward them materially now.
Do you agree?
I think most NHS staff would prefer better working conditions to a pay rise. That's probably where any changes should start. There's not much that the government can do about care home workers, as they don't pay them directly.
There's always a magic money tree when it comes to paying government expenses or MP pay rises. I'm sure Boris can find other, less essential, areas to cut back on. Maybe some of that lovely lolly we'll save from leaving the "EUSSR"?
Care workers get about half of what nurses get paid and probably work just as hard. Fair enough they don't go to University, and are not as skilled, but I would rather more money go to Care Workers than nurses. This will never happen as its the fat cat private agencies and care home owners that get the lions share of the up to £4000 per month care home fees per person.
Theland, to accuse anyone of being mean-spirited is and insult - and actually, coming from you, entirely disingenuous - but you know that. You have proposed that nurses be given a pay rise now. Where do you suggest the money will come from? It's a simple question.
