I rang my travel insurance this afternoon to ask could I ‘freeze’ it till I can use it ( annual ) £84 for Europe, I could but just for a month, I argued , the airlines won’t be flying then
‘ we can refund you madam’
Okay, I said
‘ that’s £61 going back to the card you paid on‘
Err No said I , £84
‘ No Madam, £61 Pro rata ( I took it out on March 5th)
Nice work huh?
That’s fair enough. You were insured until you cancelled. It’s likely if you pay an annual subscription your insurance doesn’t just cover you for travel abroad. If I get hit by a bus in my local high street I’m insured by my annual policy.
I'm trying to work out whether £84 is cheap or expensive for an annual European travel policy. I suppose it depends upon your age and your health. The last time I took out such a policy (at age 65 and with no known health conditions) was two years ago and I paid just £16 so, by that standard, £84 sounds extortionate.
However I'm not loking forward to taking out my next policy (aged 67, with hypertension and cancer). I've got a feeling that it might cost a great deal more than I've been used to paying!
yes, and you're lucky the USA holds no appeal for you, Buenchico.
Bobbi, that sounds pretty good. £84 is £7 a month. You've had it for more than two months, whether you chose to use it or not. You've probably paid about £6 for an admin fee.
My son has already paid in full months ago to go to NewYork with his two best friends in November - and flying with Virgin!! He doesn’t know what to do!
Yes I thought it was a very good price and it was for Silver cover , I would have preferred freezing it but the option was just for I month and I really can’t see anything much changing by then
I cancelled a car insurance policy with about 6 months to run. (thought I may as well get a few bob back)
They sent me a bill for something like £200, lol.
I thought they'd made a mistake but they reckoned they hadn't.
Spicy, I used to work in insurance. Cancellation is always loaded against the customer. It tends to be cancelled on a monthly basis, but with various fees and some extras paid in full. Of course, if the customer pays over ten months (which also accrues a monthly add on for the pleasure of paying instalments), the customer is never ahead of the cancellation figure.
Yeah, mozz. Some bird explained all the fees over the phone.
I told her I'd pay nowt and she said 'you have to or we'll take you to court'
I never paid and never heard of them again and I've insured other cars since.
I'd paid for the year in advance. *** crooks.
It's an empty threat Spicy. Anything under £500 isn't worth the time and effort for a large company to bother with. Worst thing they can do is withhold your no claims bonus.
