If incoming plane passengers from abroad are a concern why are we sending 'rescue' vessels into the Channel thereby putting the crewmen into very close proximity to possibly infected persons for an unnecessary period of time . Why not wait until the dinghies etc are about 1 mile from the British shore and then secure and isolate the passengers.

Good question. I don't know. We seem helpless when it comes to stopping these dinghies. Why we say they were 'intercepted' when we really mean 'helped ashore' I don't know

I suppose it's because the dinghies might sink. I know some people wouldn't worry about that, but the authorities will.

If they can be secured and isolated a mile away, why can the same not be said about a rescue further away?

better still call the french coast guard to rescue them, as they set off from france in the first place.
