Track And Trace Plan

Could somebody tell me, do you have to have a smart phone to be able to partake in this?
I don't have a smart phone and a lot of my elderly neighbours don't either. This is because a lot of us oldies can't figure out how to use them. So, does this mean this plan would be of no use to us, does the Government think that everybody in the country has a smart phone, the internet and all the other gadgets you seem to need these days.I live on a complex of 14 bungalows for the elderly and I would say more than half don't have the internet.

Will someone else install this and tell gromit.
As I said earlier, I trialed the Swiss and the UAE Corona Apps because they work similar to the UK one, always on. I used a VPN to Trick the Apps that I was in Switzerland and UAE. So the App was pinging out on bluetooth, but obviously getting no replies.
My battery was running out 3 hours earlier than normal.

// We are releasing the app on a smaller scale before making it available to the UK public.
We chose the Isle of Wight because it is a geographically defined area with a population size that enables us to evaluate the contact tracing and testing services effectively before rolling it out across the rest of the country.
We intend to make the app available nationally in the coming weeks. //

// I have been running the app for over a week and noticed no degradation. // - because it is not working LOL

The top left indicator tells me it's running, LOL!
So we've gone from, you can't possibly have it, to it's not working! right oh!

how do you know what it's doing? we've come a long way from "you can't possibly have it", haven't we? The app says it's working, now I've been in programming most of my working life and I know how programmers work and if it was somehow disabled it would say that. I can't prove it's pinging out and you cannot prove it isn't.

The Government says it isn’t working yet.
The NHS says it isn’t working yet.
Your Google store account warns it is not finished.
The app is being trialed. If you are a programmer, you should understand what that means. A limited number of testers have been given access to the fully working version, and they are asked to report bugs. Backend, the data the The users are uploading is being used to test the collection systems
The App itself is extremely basic. It has no user functionality. All the heavy lifting work is being done backend, and that is what they are evaluating. When they are happy that it is fit for purpose, it will be rolled out Nationwide. Until then, it is just an icon that does nothing.
