Rekeying 5 lever mortice locks
Hi all,
I have just fitted two Wickes 5 lever mortice locks to my new shed. They both have different keys, but I would like them to both work on 1 key only.
How do I rekey 1 of the locks to match the others key?
All help appreciated......

If I get a customer who has ...lost their keys.... I will always replace the levers in the lock for them. Because it ia cheaper to replace the lever set, than to replace the whole lock.( but will only do it, if it's a Chubb lock.)
Call into a locksmith and ask him if he can supply 2 new lever packs for ERA mortice locks, and that you want them keyed alike.
I must sat I have never bought them for ERA locks but I change the levers on Chubb locks quite often...its a five minute job and the set of levers cost me £15. complete with ney keys.
So yes it can be done... but because ERA are not an expensive lock to start with, I'm not sure if you will find someone stocking them.

Thanks for all the input, I will have to investigate further.
The whole idea is that it takes longer to get in and they will have to make lots of noise when trying to do so and the whole shed has been strengthened and other security methods put in place, including a locking bar across the door, lights, cctv cameras and steel caging around the the walls inside amongst other things.
They probably would get in if determined enough, but would have to make lot's of noise and have plenty of time to do so, thus increasing the time they could get caught.
However, hopefully they would consider it to much of an inconveinience to try and find it easier to go and break in elsewhere.
Thanks anyway...

You would have to buy a load of spare levers and make sure both locks have the same levers in the same order.

Wicks locks are generally made by ERA Locks. You'd have to carefully open side of lock, carefully take out the levers, if their marked in numbers write down the numbers, making sure you record correct order. They should be numbered from 1 to 7. If numbered check other lock to see if any of the levers match. Then go on web to find someone who sells levers. And order missing ones. Levers are the brass or galvanised things, 5 of with sprung wire on top, their just above key turner. EDLS
