Barnard Castle is my nearest town, its very small and everyone knows everyone. Its normally full of tourists so a 'non-local' 7 weeks ago would get noticed. There is talk now it wasn't Dominic Cummins that was seen walking around Barnie it was our local 'celebrity' David Harper who has an antique shop on the bank.

Mr Lees is a local retired teacher, ff, no doubt exercising locally, as was his right. I dare say hacks have door-knocked him for his account. However, seeing as he isn't the PM's right-hand man, I dare say there would only have been a few.

APG; He may be a local 'character', but as Cummings has admitted being at Barnard Castle - driving there and back to test his eyesight (s you do)- it would appear Mr Lees was correct. And not mistaken for the other guy, the antiques dealer. How the two could be mistaken is a mystery. One looks healthy and fresh faced and smartly, if casually dressed T'other looks like he hasn't had a good steak in quite a while and is a scruff:-)

One hack in the press meeting called it Castle Barnard - getting mixed up with Castle Howard which was used in Brideshead. Cummings looking more like Anthony Blanche than Seb Flyte. Not nearly as nice but it as still very serious ! er the place not the fella

Ken if you read the article David Harper tweeted someone had called out 'hello dominic' to him while he was working on his shop on the Bank about 6 weeks ago during lockdown. ( it was closed). The penny dropped when all this hooley over Cummings came out. Cummings does not deny driving through Barnie, but denies getting out of the car. It would have been pointless getting out of the car anyway as all the shop are shut except Morrisons in the carpark.
