Excuse my ignorance but is it legal and within the terms of your insurance policy to drive when you suspect your eyes may be affected or sight impaired.

Barry1010. So we just brush it all under the carpet and move on then!
woofgang, I thought the whole point of going to his parents was that they could look after his son if needed? I would have thought "my eyes may be packing up, I'll try going for a 60-mile drive to check them out" would have been just the time when it was needed.

That's giving him the benefit of the doubt by supposing he was telling the truth - I don't think he was, I think it was a birthday jolly. But even if I suspend my disbelief, it still doesn't make sense.
I have no idea about his eyesight and I am extremely dubious about his excuses...
But it could be anything, a visual migraine can disturb your sight for a while, before returning to normal. There are causes that a very temporary too.
all true, Pixie, but if I thought it was a temporary affliction I'd wait it out at home rather than go for a 30-mile-each-way drive. (To a beauty spot I might not even be able to see...)
JNo "if needed" is the key and as I understand it the plan was if needed, to place his son with younger family members while the parents stayed in a separatew building, if needed. In different circumstances, different things are needed. When my old dog was ill and I could avoid leaving him I didn't, I had a plan A for dealing with certain circumstances where I couldn't actually be with him and a plan B for more serious circumstances.....it sounds like the same here....keep the child with you where you can, especially as he had just been unwell and taken to hospital....where you can't then you find the best care that you can.....
All this and I don't even LIKE the bloke
in his case, Plan A could well have been "Stay home. Protect the NHS. Save lives". Plan B, for when his eyes were feeling dodgy, would have been the same as Plan A.
Get off his back, does anyone really think he's a bad person?
murderer's,rapist, burglars on the streets and all you can do is crucify
a man who took family to a safe haven.
yes
yes it is lawful to drive when you are short sighted etc
Fetch a rope let's have a hanging.
Omg. You're hilarious, needawin. Have you thought about applying to the aBBC as a comedy script writer? #mustbebame#

Many thanks spice. Nice to get a compliment from one such as yourself. Nice to have found your level.
I'll give it a go.
I can't see why Woof thinks that because the child is autistic he should have been experimented on and put at risk.

If you have a child with special needs you plan well in advance and put things in place that you may not need to do for a child without special needs.
And of course...why did his wife not drive? I did all the driving when MrG became ill.
There seems to have been a degree of obfuscation and (deliberate?) confusion in the mainstream press about whether Mrs Cummings can drive - and whether she is 'scared of motorways'.

It seems that she can indeed drive and is very happy to fight her way along dangerous interstates in the US at least ... see the snippet from an article she wrote in The Spectator which is shown here :

All of which makes St Dom's need to 'test his eyesight' even more dubious than it seemed yesterday.

The happy coincidence that the trip to scenic BC was on his wife's birthday is surely just that ... a coincidence?
The problem is we don't know all the details. For example does the child (who we know is autistic- although there is a big range on the scale) need a lot of attention and respond much better to the mum than to Dad.
The more I hear the story though the less I'm convinced by it. Someone used that as a defence for him today- "if he was going to make it up he'd have thought of something more believable".
Maybe the police decision now whether to take action or not will be what will get Dom and Boris off the hook here
