Bt Halo 1 Broadband
8 Answers
We have ordinary BT Broadband (0.5 mg). On our latest bill we were informed that we would be upgraded to Halo 1 in July. Will this make much difference in internet speed? Thank you for any replies

I would check what they are actually offering. The halo1 deal, I think, includes all sorts of "add on benefits" that you may not need and if you do not nave fibre to home and a BT mobile deal, may not be any improvement for you. We renewed just 2 weeks ago and stayed with them after "negotiating" a supply package that suits us and is slightly less than we were paying with guaranteed internet connectivity and speed that is as good as we can expect from anyone at the moment. Look into what you are being offered and beware of Greeks bearing gifts. May be worth a read through.

I have had a look at our renewal contract Ellie. BT are calling it Halo 2. We were due for renewal and I must confess reluctant to change internet providers in these strange times in case we had bother that meant we could no do the online watsit stuff. So we "had a word" with the BT accounts line staffers and pleaded old age decrepancy, poverty, and general ignorance to obtain a "deal" from them. You say that you are on a 0.5 mg Broadband set up. Sorry but I cannot work that out. I have just done a test on ours whilst we have at least 5 units hooked up to the router(including 2 sky plus units) and we are pulling 64Mbps( Megabits per second) download, 48 Mbps upload with a Ping( latency) test of 1 Ms. This is not bad considering our location and cannot be bettered here without a discrete fibre optic connection right into the house. You can check your Broadband speeds here at no cost and compare them with what you are supposed to be getting and what you are being offered.

P.S You techies....I was surprised, and pleased, with the latency test as it used to be woeful.

Thanks for all that info, Togo. I was wrong about 0.5mg. (Should have said Mb)My husband mentioned that figure.
The Internet speed is extremely poor in our area and we don't have fibre Broadband nor a BT mobile deal. When I test the speed it varies, last one :Download was 1.58Mb and Upload was 0.27Mb. So slow in comparison to yours!
On reading all the info on Halo1 I think we'll give it a miss. It seems obvious that BT are trying to promote it. Thanks again for your help

Strewth Ellie....how do you cope with that? What does your current deal with BT guarantee? It has to be better than that. You seriously should be checking out that you are getting the best service and being sure that you have no installation or fault issues that are causing such woeful connectivity.
Think I would be looking for satellite broadband or cable broadband if available. Would certainly not be paying top dollar for the service that you are having. Yo are almost paying for a nothing service. Must drive you mad. You cannot stream videos or download films. Have you looked at the possibility of a 4G Mobile set up. You can pull about 20Mb with that. Even if it cost a bit more at least you would be getting a usable service for your dosh.
Ta Ellie....have a look at this. It may give you an idea or two.
