Travel To Australia
My mum travels to Australia for the first time in a couple of weeks and I have a couple of questions if any of you can help please.
Firstly, she's travelling alone, can she spread her luggage over 2 cases or must it all be in one? I checked her tickets and I can't see any stipulation, just max weight. She's flying Singapore Airlines.
Also, given the tight regulations now, can she pack her digital camera in her hand luggage or must it go in her suitcase?
Many thanks for any answers, the regulations change so often I don't know if I'm coming or going, lol!

I'm sure if when she gets to check in and she can't keep her camera in hand luggage she'll be able to fit it in her case somewhere.
I hope she enjoys it too, she's 60 and hasn't seen her brother since 1977! Thank you for that hun x

singapore airlines gotta be the best airline to Oz by a long shot. Last time I went i travelled with my then 14 month son...and they were brilliant, unlike snooty BA!!
My dad also travels regular to Oz, he travells Royal Brunei...he is 80 this yr and he off again in a couple weeks time!
Hope your mum has a fab time...and im sure she will!

Thanks Iz66, that's so kind of you! I was going to insist on Singapore Airlines anyway but when I went searching for flights they were the cheapest of all the short transit flights, so there was no contest! I hate BA with a passion, everything is soooo much effort for them!
I hope your dad has a wonderful time, I shall show my mum this, I think she's a bit nervous x

And as a suggestion, in the event one case goes missing for a day or so, pack a mix of clothes in each case so there is a change available. Keep the valuables in the hand luggage too, and do remind her to take a few walks in the flight to keep the legs working....
Ear plugs may be handy as well by the way - on the longer flights any kids wandering around while you are sleeping will be a disturbance, so the old eye mask and plugs are worth having. Otherwise, dress comfy, relax and enjoy it all.

airlines usually allow you to carry on a camera, book and walking stick, so there shouldn't be any problem with the camera. If possible, she should take all her medicines on board with her too, just in case any hold luggage gets lost (she may be able to replace lost ones in Australia but it's hard to be sure). Wear flight socks and take an aspirin or two en route as well to avoid blood clots and DVT, as it's a long flight.
Thank you all so much for your help, I really appreciate it! All your suggestions will come in very handy for her. nickmo, that was the very reason I wanted her to take two cases, atleast then she'd have something to wear, better safe than sorry.
Once again, thank you all, I'm rather anxious on her behalf, as we all are with our mums, we seem to think they can't do things without us, lol!

I have a relative who will shortly be ina similar position but will fly Royal Brunei as they are almost 200 cheaper than Quantas or Singapore Airlines however she is elderly too and anxious about travel and customs and generally what to expect on the plane. The pesent restrictions mean that she presumably can't even take a washbag to freshen up on what is a very long flight including 2 stopovers to change planes. Are there 'ethnic tensions' in reverse in the present situation at airports. I would love Iz66
Dad's take on this. She is worried but really can't justify paying the extra for something more familiar. I worry too!
Should I?

I realise I should have said that the 200 saving flying by Royal Brunei Airline to Oz is a 'round the world ticket' to include NZ and the saving is mainly due to the huge difference in airport charges between Brunei etc. and the USA via which other airlines fly ( New York and LA or SF) However it did also have other advantages including free changes and 4 optional stopovers including Singapore and Thailand as well as Brunei and Dubai. Singapore Airlines has an excellent reputation for everything I hear.
