Am I unusual in that I can not drink spirits?
15 Answers
Even a sip of whiskey, brandy, vodka etc literally makes my stomach turn over, if I had to drink a glass I would throw up for sure. I have tried to detect the "smokey, woodey," etc etc flavours in malt whiskeys, but they all taste exactly the same to me, revolting! I enjoy wine and like a cold beer now and then, but have never been able to tolerate spirits.

As for me, I gave up ages ago. I can drink them straight till the cows come home and still manage to walk in a straight line and take 20p in 5's out of my pocket without spilling my change everywhere .... I just can't get drunk!
I really need to learn how to drive, that way I could always be the driver and everyone else can have their poison.

I'm the opposite of you Lore - i'm a two Breezer Theresa. It doesn't take much to get me drunk ........... cheap date ! I sober up really quickly too but i'm a happy drunk though.
Spirits don't agree with me - especially vodka. I'm ill for days if I touch the stuff. I love Bacardi but I daren't touch it or I just end up driving the big white bus and shouting for huey ! Give me the kiddie alcopops any day. I can just about cope with that ........... oh and Baileys. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Urgh , pernod. Used to do bar work and that was the smelliest , messiest drink I ever served. That smell still haunts me so thanks for that Stevie ! Yucky , aniseed kind of smell mixed with cat vomit. Yeuch ! Aftershock is another one I hated. For the love of god WHY ??? Oh and absinthe. Drank that once on a bender (staff night out) and we all agreed to down it in one go. I stupidly stopped halfway to see what it tasted like and nearly chucked up on the bar. I was on a night out at my work (how sad is that ?!! and the oppostie shift were growling at me ! Not nice.
Ah but do you get your hands dirty or do you float about chatting up all the totty lol ! I miss my bar work days. Hubby told me i'm too old now (I'm only bloody 30 !) and gave me a complex by saying did I want to end up like Bet Lynch ? I'm not quite ready for fur coats , no knickers and gawdy jewellery yet ! I bet you have some stories to tell. I know I do ! The amount of hair we used to find at the side of the dancefloor after a catfight at the end of the night was unreal. Oh and I remember a girl leaving nail marks on the bar when she tried to cling on for dear life after being thrown out by the bouncers - sorry , door stewards - for doing something naughty in the corner with a young man. Jezabel !
Hahahaha ! I like that one. Got to do what you can then ........ purely in the interests of your job of course. It's a great social life if you're single but not if you are part of a couple - especially married. Where I worked , a lot of the lassies were having it away with so many different guys (Not doing much for the image of barmaids and made the rest of our lives a lot harder trying to assure punters that we weren't all like that) and I made the fatal mistake of telling my hubby that so he wasn't best pleased. I'm not a cheater though and if you're going to cheat , it doesn't matter what job you do , you'll do it anyway. He hated guys chatting me up but that's part of the job and it's only harmless banter. He used to make it awkward for me at work though when he was perched at the end of the bar.
So do you work in a pub or nightclub ? I've done both but i've got to say that I prefer nightclub work. Found out the hard way though why you should never wear a white bra under any other top than white when you are under UV lights. Might as well just have stood in my bra !

i've done both aswell, but now work in a bar with no late licence. looking for somewhere where i can be the head honcho.
i love just standing at the end of the bar watching the punters make total fools of themselves chatting each other up. then enjoy it even more when i remind them of it!!
we have a few who come in regular, and one in particular has tried it on with everything in a skirt, even the owner!! he got short shrift there though!

I will say though that you get better craic working in a bar then a nightclub because you get to know people better and can actually talk to them. It's a really weird experience though watching loads of people gradually get drunk in front of you and being stone cold sober. I used to watch them and think , I hope to hell i'm not like that when i'm drunk ! Yes , I remember the lechy bar flies well ! A fave line when I used to wind them up was 'Right , me and you out the back , stripped to the waist' I was always sticking my foot in it. Classic cases of not engaging brain before I spoke. They used to get a right laugh at my double entendres. I once worked in a place where it was a public bar with nightclub next door. (Same owners) The cellar joined both premises and I had been doing a shift in the nightclub. A young guy (about 18) asked me for an orgasm then started giggling to his pals thinking that it was the first time I had heard that and I forgot what went into it. I walked through to the public bar , threw open the door and shouted to the staff in there "Hey , i've forgotten what to do to for an orgasm. How do you do it again ?" I won't tell you the answers I got. Plenty of people choking on their pints though ! DIdn't live that down for quite some time.
