oh, they were tracing contacts months ago, before Matt was even born. They they, er, stopped.

Apps need development, and that doesn't even start until someone decides to fund it. But test (?), track, and trace will have been possible "longhand" before, but I'd suspect not overly efficiently since it depends on memory, and chasing up those met.

Track and trace has always been around and is usually referred to as the shoe leather approach but this needed to be on a larger scale and needed the contact tracers to be recruited and needed testing to be widely available. I understand it al needs the infection level to be at manageable levels which it is now. They still need to get all tests for test and trace turned round in 24 hours and need more people to cooperate. They were hoping to tie it in with App but I think that one won't work- it hasn't worked anywhere except possibly Singapore and S Korea although they are very different types of society and some say it was not the app but old fashioned tracing that did it there
