Age 64 Travel Pass Query?

hi my husband has just turned 64 years old today. Is he entitled to a bus pass please? and how does he apply.? Thanks.

Did you ael? Many years ago it was on pension age = 60 for women and 65 for men. That's how it was when my mom and dad retired in the early 70s. Then they put the age up for women to 65 and now many councils do it retirement age, currently 66 for men and women.

In N.I you get it when you are 60 and when you are 65 you get a Senior pass which enables you to travel free in Southern Ireland

In Scotland you get a bus pass at age 60. It's called a National Entitlement Card. You can use this for local and travel between cities in Scotland.

For clarification:

The original rule (across the whole of the UK) was that a person qualified for their bus pass when they reached the age at which a woman would be eligible to receive her state pension. (The rule actually applied to both men and women though). As, at that time, a woman qualified for her state pension at 60, that was also the age when both men and women could get a bus pass.

The plan was that, as the age at which a women starts to receive her state pension gradually rises, the eligibility age for a bus pass should rise with it. That's been allowed to happen in England but the administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all decided to peg the qualifying age at 60.

So if Mr Cleob lives in any of those three parts of the UK, he could have had a bus pass four years ago. However if he lives in England, he'll have to wait until a woman who was born on the same day as hin qualifies for her state pension. That will be on her (and his) 66th birthday.

rail cards are different - odd rules which varies
some cities only allow it 9-11 am
