Can I just say...

I really hate the term 'Other half' or even worse 'Better half'.... it just inplies that without them you aren't whole and while some people might consider this cute to think they aren't complete without their partner it implies that if they ever left you that you would be wandering the earth as an incomplete person for the rest of your days.. or worse that until the day you met them you were wandering around as a half.. not a whole!
Does anyone else feel the same or does anyone infact like using the term 'other/better half'?

I was with my ex 5yrs and and I truly didn't think I could live without him but I NEVER used the term other half! I always thought it sounded silly. But I have never felt more whole than I do now, being totally and happily single. I think I was with him so long that I started acting like a half.. not my own person!

Hey Rubes, I don't like the term either but sometimes it's difficult to find something appropriate when relating to your 'other half'
I always write fiance but sometimes I think it sounds a bit soppy and comes across as a reminder to people that we're engaged - in an annoying way!
So as catty cat said, boyfriend is a bit kiddy, he's not my husband, I refuse to be called 'the missus,' ...he's so much more than a partner and although I'd love to do it, I'm sure he wouldn't appreciate me referring to him as 'my lil snuggly bum' or something along those lines.
(hope he doesn't read this!!) :o\
