OK, win7, used the correct drivers from Roland, the firewire card driver was a generic one from Microsoft that automatically loaded,
So fault lies, I assume, in either the edirol or the pcie card, which has a via chipset.
I also have new firewire cable as well as the original one.
I also purchased a USB to firewire adaptor plug, just a small device, plugged in, the computer speaker gave out a buzzing sound for a few seconds, and it all went off, and will not restart. I have changed kettle lead for a known working one.
The computer is a small dell desktop, so difficult to play around inside, but I am going to assume the power transformer has blown, as when I try to power up there is absolutely nothing, not a glimmer of a light anywhere.
