…and anyone else who may be interested. This has been a long time coming but I remember Ken asking me to report back to him on this book which I’ve only just finished…. I do have a habit of having several books on the go at any one time.

Anyway ….this is the re-telling of the Greek myths as only Stephen Fry could re-tell them. From the beginnings of the universe to Zeus’s thunderbolts to Hera’s jealousy, to Sisyphus cheating gullible death not once but twice. it simply bounds along. Witty, a chuckle on every page, full of footnotes and appendices detailing the current connection between the myths, the heavens, and language - all in all very readable and extremely enjoyable - for me at least. To anyone who is into that sort of thing I have no hesitation in recommending it. A treasure of a book.

Hope you're not disappointed, Rocky. Ever since a book club asked me to recommend a book for them - and hated my choice - I've hesitated to recommend anything to anyone. Fingers crossed this one has more success.

I've read a number of books on Greek (and Roman) mythology. Might give this a go :o)

Being an avid fan of Homer this sounds good to me. I have found Fry's books very variable, one or two I have enjoyed immensely but others I've found very disappointing.

I think I'll give this one a try. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

If Mythos takes your fancy then two books by American author Madeline Miller might be of interest, The Song of Achilles - the run-up to the Trojan war - and Circe - the goddess and Odysseus' lover. Both are entertaining, well-researched, and readable.

Then you guess wrong, Naomi :-) Just downloaded it onto my Kindle. About a third of the way through the second book in the Cardinal series, so will tackle Mythos after that. As I have already mentioned on here, I am an avid fan of all things Greek Myth, finding their version of how things 'came to be' no less plausible than the Christian version - or any other, for that matter. Ta for the reminder:-)
