I'd book yourself an armed guard if I were you, its a dangerous hell hole.

Muggings, sexual assaults and rapes, car jacking and other violent crimes are commonplace. Apparently the LBGT community are particularly targeted.

Dar is not a dangerous hell hole. It's a good stopping off place on the way to Zanzibar and Tanzania is an amazing country.
