I have a file that i can not delete. every time i try to i get the same message on screen. FILE NAME YOU SPECIFIED IS INVALID OR TO LONG. could someone please give me some top tips on how to remove this kind of file. I'm on windows ME and the file was downloaded and it was a picture. HELP !

You could try renaming the file first. Right click it and select rename. You can try just changing the name or both the name and file extension. You may get a message to say that changing the file extension may cause the file to become unstable, but seeing as you are deleting it, it won't really matter.

I'm sorry to say that it wont let me rename file thankyou for your help.
you could boot machine to dos and delete it from there--assuming you know how--if u don't let me know and i'll explain

I do not understand about dos and booting machine. Yes please i could do with some serious help. THANKYOU !
Simpler way may work..... reboot in Safe Mode & delete (get safe mode by restarting PC, pressing F8 key repeatedly & choosing from boot menu). Delete & do normal restart
You could download a 'File Shredder' program and use that to delete it (it's worked for me in the past).
