a chest x ray, and a lung CT scan, would the same results occur. I had a CT scan recently and am still worried that this coughing up bits of blood is still around. The CT scan showed nothing untoward, which was good, and i got the results within two days, better still.

X-rays are of limited usefulness regarding soft tissue but quite useful for seeing the bone structure. The main advantage of X-ray/CT technology over the likes of MRI or other scanning methods is its low cost and it is often used as a quick/instant solution in the quest for information. My guess would be that you will next be sent for an MRI scan which in most areas of the UK involves significant waiting lists. MRI would normally reveal far more than X-ray/CT of what is relevant to your symptoms. Another option would be endoscopy if deemed relevant. I would not want to comment on the symptoms themselves.
A chest XRay is cheaper than a CT Scan and will pick up the majority ofimg disorders. A Scan is more expension but gives you a more precise evaluation of the lung anatomy for those difficult cases which are not providing the requires answers, so basically both investigations are similar.
Blood nay be como. G from the back of the throat due to chronic irritation from persistent coughing.
If investigation have been normal, then we are not dealing with a life threatening problem.

and no one has mentioned radiation
1 CAT scan = 1000 chest x rays
still peanuts of course - I have had two courses of radiotherapy ( and this is NOT a ouija board) 40 and 40 gy and that corresponds to hundr3ed of thousands or millions CXR
coughing blood is always abnormal and they will go on investigating

Is there any possibility that the tickle you feel in your throat is blood trickling down from the top of your nose? Could it be a slight nose bleed that you have? That would make you cough and spit up bright red blood.
I used to have a lot of nose bleeds, many the typical heavy flow down the nose but occasionally it would be as I described above. I have a capillary (I think it is called that) right up my nostril that is weak and prone to small bleeds.
