I distinctly remember seeing a question from a Uni student earlier today regarding assignments. It´s disappeared! why? Don´t tell me it was a troll.

I didn't see the one you refer to Piggy, but one would hope if it has been removed there was a reason.

Bear in mind too.

Rules.

• Any posts asking or discussing why a post or thread was removed or closed, or why a member was banned or suspended, will be removed.
Discussion of deleted posts or threads is not permitted.

Sorry.
I see nothing wrong with explaining why the thread was probably pulled (even though I didn't see it myself).

One of the most frequent types of spam that I find myself zapping is of the 'two part' sort, where one new member asks a question and then, just a short while later, another new member comes along with a 'helpful' link.

In particular, I've seen countless posts from people claiming to need help with their uni assignments, which have then been followed very quickly by links to assignment-writing services (most frequently based in India) that claim to provide the perfect solution to the student's problems.

Such spam threads tend to occur fairly early in the day, presumably because that's when our Asian spammers are up and about, but they can appear at any time.

So my guess is that what you saw was just the first part of an attempt at spamming the site.
Were there any replies to it?

Cheers Chris, I totally forgot about spamming.
Yes, sometimes when you get a first question like this you find the poster has already tested the water by replying with a spam link on some very old threads or they have an avatar which gives away their organisation

I agree.entirely Chris. It seems a completrly pointless rule. If a lot of verbal happens because someone is upset a thread was deleted, a brief explanation will normally solve.the issue.
Mozz - // If a lot of verbal happens because someone is upset a thread was deleted, a brief explanation will normally solve.the issue. //

Experience suggests otherwise - discussion of deleted posts and threads very often descends into a slanging match, which is why the rule was put in place.
I'm generally happy with the rule too but, as my post above only explained about general matters (rather than referring to the specific thread, which I never even saw), it didn't seem unreasonable to me to indicate why certain types of posts can get zapped.

However I have occasionally provided a reason why I've removed a specific thread, particularly when it's been because of discussion of sub judice court proceedings, in order to try to prevent similar threads appearing.
Several years ago, I pointed out to a previous ED that a post either contravened a Court Order or it was sub judice (I forget which) and mines was deleted whilst the offending post remained.

I was not a happy bunny.

Sheesh. I've modded on other forums, generally with a younger audience, and I've never known such an argumentative bunch than the AB crowd.

The older generation, eh? What are they like?
You can't talk to us like that.
