Only an old style apprenticeship will prepare you fully for any job/career. Most people get their first proper job because the employer can see they have the potential to learn and to fit in with their organisation. Then you learn what the job is all about & (hopefully) become proficient. Try to get into something you are really interested in - ideally something you would like to do even if you weren't being paid!
