Music Cassettes

After the popularity of singles and LPS making a comeback, I heard the other day on the radio that the same is about to happen now also for cassette recordings. Do you still have any music cassettes , or were you like me and got rid of them all when I got rid of all my videos?

yes love them still, metal type, dolby"c "sound no tangling or snapping , suppose it depends how cack handed you are and the quality of your machine

All well and good keeping them, but the shelf life of magnetic tape is only about 10 years. Good storage and not played to often, or in a bad player, can prolong the life but tapes from the 70s are not going to be a good bet in a new machine. Really bad storage, ie in the Garage or similar, results in a horrid mould growing inside the cassette. If you start to use them again you will need to keep a pencil handy, and cotton buds and pinch wheel cleaner. I can still remember how to repair the cassettes with a snapped tape using a razor and Sellotape, and video cassettes.

I threw loads out years ago but still have about fifty or so, full of Band rehersals (bands I played in) Demo's that we all were writing. and a lot of my own music demo's, songs I'd composed musically (I can't sing). going back as far as an old four track recording unit, to writing them on keyboard and computer.

Cassettes were underestimated and considered poor quality, the problem was usually inferior equipment. I play mine on the Hi Fi system and they sound as good as any CD, in my opinion they sound better as they have a warm tone which CD's lack.

I have a lot, have been playing them recently and they are fine. I have cassettes, vinyl and CDs, videos and DVDs and I listen or watch them. I've even got a Walkman, now that's history!

Since the demise of cassettes you no long see tangles of magnetic tape shimmering in hedgerows.

Have you had them converted into digital format? If not, you really should consider it as they really don't last forever, and the longer you leave it the worse they get.

I’ve kept all my cassettes. Mostly for sentimental reasons.

Same advice to you, then CloverJo. It's not expensive to have them digitised.
