Started early in the year, the lupins seems to attract them, then as the Dahlias came through even more came, counted over 30 the other day whearas previous year lucky to see a dozen at one tiem.

Also started to see more Ladybirds which is excellent news.

Still no hedgehogs though which is a real shame.

Rowan and people who would like the no mow/prune policy to continue, contact your local councils and TELL them. They will be looking for ways to save money and if this makes them look environmentally friendly too then its a win win. Most areas also have at least one wildlife/environmental group who will be working to achieve this too and its worth hunting somewhere like facebook to find them.
Loads of bees and butterflies here in Dundee. Haven't seen a ladybird this year nor a hedgehog. Mr Fox is about most nights.
"Still no hedgehogs though which is a real shame. " - one of my dogs caught a young hedgehog the other day. Jack Russell v hedge hog! PMSL he bought it in the house somehow, there was blood, because he got stabbed by the spines! err indoors got it off him and put him out of harms way, he stayed curled up but was gone when we next looked so I think he survived ok.
Lots of bees around my garden. I found a ladybird in my bed yesterday and discovered we have bats under the eaves- not sure whether to be worried or grateful?
Can I have my bees back please. Usually loads in the lavender, but hardly any this year, a few ladybirds, but far too many flying ants. At one stage the garden was like a scene from a Hitchcock film, but the birds seem to have done a runner now. (North Beds)
we didn't have flying ants here this year (yet!!)
I assume we've had millions of gall wasps as mutant spiky acorns are pouring from the oak tree. You can't go out there in bare feet, it would be like walking on a Lego block convention

Not many Bees about but a month or so back we had a few swarms of flying ants go over.
I've got a massive buddleia bush (I call it the triffid). No butterflies, a few bees and that's it - where are they all ??
loads of butterflies here, buut I have only seen 1 bee and that was a few months ago. We don't have our lavendar this year though
Trust me I have e-mailed everyone I have been saying those things for years
rowan, do you ask other people to email too?
