The Middle Lines Of The First Verse Of Our National Anthem, With Minor Changes, Give The Names Of Two Military Characters From Which Popular Book Series
Don't know if this helps, but 'God Save the King', which morphed into 'Queen' w and proved very popular and caught on. It was written and first performed in 1745 (after a theatrical performance - I think). This was just after 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' beat the English at Prestonpans.
The popular book series could just be 'Horrible Histories' (have addicted grandchildren) so middle lines could be 'Victoria and Gloriana', but it is all very strange. Good luck.
Could Glorius & Victorius (or something similar - Happyanglorius?)be Roman soldiers from the Asterix series. They had names like Armisurplus, Crismusbonus, Magnumopus.
Many many thanks to Kettledrum for last night's answer. Having looked at original suggestion by Kettledrum I'd starting looking through some of the Asterix books. A great find - and again I'm grateful to all of those who took the time (and trouble!?) to offer suggestions.
Wow well done kettledrum, great answer.
Used to love Asterix books :)
