My laptop is showing a laptop critical low battery - and then shuts down.I took battery off and tried using the ac power adapter instead- but it won't power on at all.So i don't know if it is a faulty battery or a faulty ac power adapter - or both ?
Just note that the ac/dc adaptor should power the laptop whether the battery is good bad or even removed, as Ael has already posited. If the laptop is a good one or has important files that are not backed up I think it may be diligent to order both battery and charger.
Almost certainly the battery. Since it's obviously removable, try buying a new one. Depending on the make/model, it won't power on without a battery installed.
Plug in the mains charger/adaptor. Switch on the laptop. With everything on remove the battery. Wait 20seconds or so and replace the battery with everything still on. The battery should now start charging. Then order a new battery.
togo , tried it won't work.Won't power up at all with ac power adapator.
diddlydo
- i have done that before with other laptops - but as stated in my post this one wont
Then your charger/adaptor is goosed. You need a new one. Before ordering one are you sure that there is no damage to the socket that it plugs into or that the fuse in the 3 pin plug is intact?

Try to check the battery charging with another charger. If it gets charged, then you will need to replace the charger. If it doesn't get charged with another charger, then its the fault in battery.
Replacement batteries arent all that expensive - if you can find a nine cell option they hold charge much longer. Be happy to find you a link if you post make/model or even the battery number.
