And have you forgiven them?

Feeling a bit maudlin tonight and was thinking about the time when i was about 10 at Primary school. We didnt have to wear a uniform until we went to Secondary school.

My Mother went to a Jumble Sale and bought me a dress, when she showed if to me i told her that was the uniform dress of our local Senior School, she said "i dont care about that, ive paid for it now you can still wear it".

Well not only did she make me wear it but she made me wear it to school!

So i was in Primary school wearing the Senior school uniform.

I got the mickey taken out of me all day, so i was glad when she came to collect me my teacher told her to avoid any confusion it might be best if i didnt wear it again.

I still haven't forgiven her.

Another memory was my Mam chasing me around the table with my long thick pony tail in her hand after I'd gone out to meet friends one Saturday morning and decided I was going to be a Mod, went to a hairdressers who asked me " are you sure" and had by black hair cut to about a half an inch all over ( Mod style) I was given my pony tail by the kindly hairdresser ( why I'll never know) I gave it to my Mam who was shouting those immortal words

// WAIT TILL YOUR DAD GETS HOME //
I still use Vim to clean my cream coloured sink.
Oh, yes I had the hairdresser trip just before starting school. It went from rather long to “boy short” giving me a very cold neck and head.
I remember having to wear a liberty bodice all year round, even under my summer frocks! Winter was always woolly tights with a hand knitted sweater and a pinafore dress, usually homemade.
My father was an abusive manipulative man, and my mother was terminally frightened of him.

The atmosphere in our house was permanently wound up tension waiting for the next row to explode.

What I can't forgive my mother for was rejecting my wife and our children. She had seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren, and she never wanted anything to do with mine, and I don't forgive her for that.

I rarely think of my parents, until a reminder like this, and then I will forget all about them again. They are both dead, my life goes on.
Made us move to a small village in Northamptonshire .... I was horrified to find out where milk came from and still haven't recovered from finding sheeps tails in the field - minus the sheep. Still haven't forgiven them for that move.
Mally - // … and still haven't recovered from finding sheeps tails in the field - minus the sheep. //

Wow, sounds like when the rustled sheep in your area, they stayed rustled!
Nothing, there is nothing to forgive.
I brought home a second cat and after it had one lot of kittens it got pregnant again and my mum took it to the local animal shelter - I ran away from home (for a few hours) which messed up our weekend as they were planning on visiting relatives.
Moving house and school where I had high grades to a haunted house and to a school for the cerebrally challenged. No.
Andy hughes...the farmer put rubber bands round the tails of the lambs cutting off blood supply and thus tail dropped off.....honestly I left home at 18 and it was such a relief!!
Andy - was your mum like that because they were your step children? I don't think I'd forgive that either. My kids paternal nan has nothing to do with her sons 5 kids (2 being mine) but does with her daughters kids.
i recall that there were umpteen occasions but I don't recall the details of any. Not that I'd be inclined to mull over them and share them if I were to recall details. They're in the past, I'm in the present, heading for today's future.
Where would I start! My parents married because I was on the way and I suffered for that. It was my fault. When I was fifteen and school wanted me work towards going to art college my mother wasn't having that and arranged with her parish priest for me to go to Wales to be a nanny on a farm. I refused and shortly found myself on the street with nothing. Mum put everything I owned in the dustbin....I still miss the first watch an Auntie bought me and my green Muffin the Mule with the magnetic carrot.... :-) Luckily a lovely couple took me in.
That we had a relationship after that was down to my efforts and I cared for her as she developed alzheimer's.
A few years ago I found out about the lies she had told folk about my departure from home. I ran away, she told people, and the shock killed my father. Complete lies. She was too far gone for me to challenge her about by then it but it explained why people who had been friends were cold towards me.
Have I forgiven? Not a chance. My regret is doing my best to build a relationship with her and not being able to tell her I now knew about all the lies she told.
The one good thing to come from this is that I learned how to be a good mother.....a slightly bonkers one....but I think the kids are happy with what they have...... :-)
what did my parents do to me
absolutely nothing compared to what I did to myself

my brother did even better: resolutely squandering every and any educational opportunity offered
( usually while shouting "look at me everyone!" )

They *** you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were *** up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
that would be Happy Larkin would it?
A stray wild dog trusted me cos I fed it & I named him Rex. He waited for me off the school bus & stayed outside our house.

My mum told me to take Rex to the police to find the owner. Instead they shot him in front of me as they said Rex was rabid. I went mad at the police & when I got home I stole her weeks money & burnt it.
ummmm - // Andy - was your mum like that because they were your step children? I don't think I'd forgive that either. //

I figured it was that, until we had our third daughter between us, but she got ignored just the same.

Our middle daughter made a relationship with her grandmother against out wishes, she can be contrary like that, obviously it worked, she was left £500 in my mother's will, the other two got nothing.
