Indapamide 1.5 mg daily


Isnt the above two medications
working against each other ?


The first one as i understand it amongst other things, treats frequency of urination

The second one increases the frequency of urination

Indapimide is a diuretic often prescribed if you have High blood pressure.

If in doubt speak to the prescriber.

I was prescribed 1.5 mg of Indapamide to be taken daily in the morning as it is a diuretic. I was also taking Losartan in the evening.

After a cancer operation Tamsulosin was prescribed for me to be taken in the evening as I was having difficulty with passing water. The explanation for this was that chemotherapy and radiography can increase the size of the prostate giving difficulty in passing water and Tamsulosin works to reduce its size.

However, Tamsulosin also lowers blood pressure and should not be taken at the same time as other blood pressure medication. My GP advised me to stop taking the Losartan.

So for a while I was taking Indapamide in the morning and Tamsulosin in the evening.

However at the moment I have been told to drop Indapamide and only take Tamsulosin.

PERFECT.
One, indapamide allows you to pass more water,taking the load off your heart and the tamsulosin relaxes the muscles around your enlarged prostate allowing the flood gates to open.

prescribed after the consultant was told that the patient was having high frequency of urination at night

I believe the patient has an enlarged prostate .
I thought therefore that the enlarged prostate would be squeezing against the bladder , thus causing the increased frequency of urination

Sqad , but you seem to be saying that the tamsulosin is for increasing urination , which is the opposite of what the patient wants

The patient wants 2 things, firstly to increase the amount of urine formed to ease the pressure on the heart and secondly to relax the muscles around the urethra,partially blocked by the enlarged prostate, to allow the free flow of the excess urine formed by the kidneys.
Without that urethral muscular relaxation, the urine would just uild up in his bladder unable to be voided.
Hence in my words, Tamsulosin opens the bladderfloodgates.

So the patient is wrong in beleiving that the Tamsulosin was prescribed to lessen the frequency of urination ?

Ok I see what you say about the purpose of Tamsulosin

Just seems a bit odd that the consultant would prescribe it after being told that the patient was suffering from frequency of urination, in the first place ?

Tamsulosin helps the flow of urine pass more easily. Exactly as Sqad said.

I would guess Tams was prescribed to help completely empty the bladder all at once...rather than many small trips to pee - “frequency” if that makes sense.

In my experience many people think Tamsulosin isnt helping and when they stop it they soon realise it actually did.
