once again we see females referred to as BIRDS I wonder is it an expression older males would use rather than our new man we hear so much about id be interested in all oppinions
well us birds dont like picking up worms? so better to have a worm with a bit of muscle.
Hello Crete, Bird is not a derogatory term necessarily and I think it's used universally by men of most age groups, do you mind me asking what you've got against the term as I'd never viewed it as something to avoid? I didn't think wardy was being off using it, or am I missing something?
I see that derogatory terms are now lost on the younger generation. Bird = Ready for plucking .... or it did in the 60's
i dont think it is a very nice way to refer to females but only my opinion, i think it sounds quite common.
Hope I wasn't being presumptuous Noxlumos with the 'younger generation' jibe. I would be interested to know what you thought it meant?
Hello Hatpin,You can refer to me as the younger generation all you like, I'm 46 so chuffed to hell when anyone does:)
Bird is such a commonly used and universal phrase to refer to a girl or woman that it honestly never struck me as offensive and you often hear blokes refer to women as a "stunning bird" or "pretty bird that works at the garage" and it was always my belief that it came from the word "burd" which meant originally beautiful and later was taken as a word for woman ( origins Norse).
All that being said, I'm not English (Irish) so we might have missed out on the rhyming slang type "ready for plucking" thing, so it may not appear to me as bad as it obviously does to you.
I always refer to women as birds on here and aint gonna change coz of you Crete(whiffey)
cobra i dont wish to change how you refer to females i was asked my opinion and i gave it , as for that old chestnut re whiffey it is getting tiresome lol
