The situation with your fryer is akin to that which applies to mobile phones and laptops with 'non-replaceable' batteries. i.e. it is actually possible to replace them yourself but it has to be done 'unofficially' by taking the device to pieces. In most cases you can find out how to do it (if you're brave enough!) on Youtube but I can't find any videos that...
