Dvd Player

All I'm after is a bog standard, plain and simple, stand alone DVD player, nothing flashy or hi-tech or paart of a sound system, just something I can plug into the mains and watch - or in my case, listen to - my DVDs. I guess there is a screen/monitor, which would be handy though for someone to look at if something went wrong. But it's summat to watch my DVDs, which are things I remember or things that have been part described and I remember the dialogue. Just summat simple...like me!...smile! Ta Muchly and Take Care All.

I'm not recommending that company particularly, but they come with the screen attached, which may be worthwhile if you don't need a large TV screen x

Hi Pixie, I went into the link you gave, but got all mixed up with what was on offer and anyway, I can't seem to find a DVD player which mentions a mains power unit - or summat similar - so I don't know where the power comes from or how...is it wi-fi or from what?...and it keeps on mentioning the telly when I don't want or need a telly to play my discs on, I just want to plug into the mains, put in a DVD and watch(listen) to it...and no mention of headphone socket either!...am I asking too much for stuff to be made simple in product explanations?... or is it just me!
Yeah, okay, powered by battery, right but even then, unless I've missed it, it doesn't say what kind of battery - I must be more thick than I thought!..."you didn't have to think too much then!" says Lie-in King, with a wicked grin...ah, it's you, right, I'll let you off for that with a reward!...in-joke folks!
Hi Woodelf!
If you were to go into a shop and just ask for a 'DVD player', they'd assume that you were referring to the type which has to be connected to a telly. If you're seeking the type that has its own screen (and, more importantly to you, its own speakers and headphone socket) built into it, then it's a 'portable DVD player' that you need.
Just like laptops, tablets, mobile phones and other portable devices, a portable DVD players has a rechargeable battery built into it but you can use it on a mains power simply by keeping the charging unit plugged into it. The sound quality that you get from the speakers on any such unit is always very 'tinny' but you get much better sound quality through headphones.
