"[Q] What are the most common problems with a used Ford Fiesta hatchback?
[A] Diesel versions of the Fiesta have been known to suffer from injector issues which can be expensive to sort out, so keep this in mind if you decide you want one of these versions.
The plastics used for the dashboard and door cards mark easily, especially when children are regular passengers. Some owners have complained about the quality of the materials used in the cabin. The stereo also has a habit of failing, along with the heating and ventilation system which can develop a mind of its own.
There have also been several reports of water leaks, resulting in damp front footwells - this can cause mould in cars that sit for long periods of time. Lift the mats and check carefully when inspecting a car."

Do you know if the cam belt has been changed?
I have a an older Fiesta 1.4TD. Great little car, but as has been mentioned, there can be problems with the injectors. Injector seals are one problem, but if an injector packs up it's expensive! This is the third diesel car I've had, the other two were Rover and Vauxhall. I wouldn't have another as I don't do the mileage since I retired. I make sure it has a run of at least 50 miles once a week.
It is becoming more and more expensive to own a diesel.

There's your answer then, scattman. All you have to do is get it shipped over to the USA where the wonderful company suggested by RPreston will check it over for you.
Incidentally, my 2008 diesel Volvo has over 200,000 miles on the clock and still runs beautifully. Petrol burns, diesel explodes, so diesel engines are built more robustly to take care of this and high mileage is a given. Not only that, it's cold starts that wreck an engine so it's likely a well-maintained Don't worry.high-mileage engine is in better condition than a low-mileage one.
