My Mothers Ashes

I collected them yesterday from the undertakers. My intention was to hold on to them until we can have a proper requiem mass for her and then interring them in our family grave. As this is likely not to happen before next year I suggested to one of my sons that we take them to the seaside at the weekend for one last time for her. She loved the seaside when we were children and I thought it would be a nice thing to do.

My bil's ashes were released to the sea at St Georges well, Padstow, Cornwall ( his favourite place ). I dug a shallow trench in the sand and poured his ashes into it just as the tide was coming in.

Hold onto the ashes as long as you wish Ric.ror. When the time is right and you can do what you feel is appropriate and would be desired by your mum - then is the time to act. In the meantime, I can't understand why you shouldn't take her to the seaside or any places she loved as a last tour.

I once taught a 13 yr. old boy, whose mum died one October. He was an immature lad and had a teaching assistant who shepherded him and helped him generally in school. She carried his mum's ashes around, in and out of classrooms, for the rest of the school year so that he knew that Mum was never far away. Do what you feel is right.

Ric.ror, do what makes you feel ok.
My mum’s ashes are still in their urn after 6 years. I don’t know what’s best to do with it. My dad wants his ashes mixed with hers and made into a brick when he goes. I’m not sure how to do that.
