Hancock forced to prioritise who gets Covid-19 tests in face of increased demand
....
last week they were encouraging all and sundry to get tested. Hence running low on tests again

eve I don't think so. So far as I recall it was get a test of you have got symptoms or if you are told to do so. https:// www. nhs. uk/ conditions/ coronavirus- covid- 19/ testing- and- tracing/ get- a- test- to- check- if- you- have- coronavirus/

Trevor did Matt Hancock ever say anything other than "get a test if you have symptoms or are told to"? So far as I am aware, private companies are not authorised to send symptomless people for testing "just in case" Certain key worker organisations have been allowed to arrange for mass testing under certain circumstances but that is arranged through the organisation and people are not just told oh you have to go off and get yourself a test every month.
If you know differently for a fact, then I would like to see your proof.

We'll have to agree to differ. We can't do both; in fact we're scarcely able to do one, never mind both. The overwhelming priority should be to test people who have symptoms so that they can either be treated if positive (and treatment is necessary) or get back to work if negative. The resources required to do a test are the same - somebody to take the sample and somebody to test it. If it is beyond the collective wit of the government to arrange for the resources that are currently being used to gather data to be transferred to deal with people who need a test then they should get some commercial managers in. They are used to prioritising the use of scarce resources and directing them as required. They should cope quite easily.
