When my friends husband died 3 weeks ago I contacted them saying she no longer needed the internet ( she's 78) the person I spoke to was Indian and hard to understand, they switched the internet off almost immediately despite paying a month in advance, I explained she needed her phone line and was assured that would be fine, today it was switched off !
Customer service to them is Pants!!!

sorry the company is in the heading, i would get on to them again and ask to be put through to a UK senior manager, tell them you will contact the ombudsman if they don't comply with your wishes

I done that yesterday Emmie and was told £48 was a reconnection charge followed by a further £100+ for God knows what, I've managed to get her with Sky for just £26 a month now
Did you try the cost of a landline only deal from BT?
I would use web chat to contact them so you get a transcript. Can be a lot easier than a phone call these days.
The best way to get decent customer service from anywhere when someone has died is to contact the Bereavement department.
