The wold cup qualifier could also be IRAN which would fit with GRUDGE but the last letter is U (2nd letter in HUDDERSFIELD) - birthplace of rugby league in 1895. Can't seem to align these?

for 47 Across Competitive Dislike, bad Feeling (6) I have -E-D-E. The first E in the 2nd position is on the basis that PERU is the answer to the 5 times world cup qualifier. The madding thing is the the D and the last E would fit with GRUDGE!
