My parents are devastated that they have lost their 5 year old black lab to cancer. They have had him since he was a puppy.
They are now looking for another black lab, but not a puppy.
Can anyone give advise on where to find one and give him a good home.
Dogs Trust is shut to the public and have done a search on their site and whilst it says 16 looking for homes I can't actually find where they are.
Thanks
As Tilly says google lab rescue.
I have 2 black lab rescue myself and got them both at about 9 months.
Not quite puppies but still early enough to correct most of the damage
I'd think all rescues are closed to the public in that you can't just turn up. It's all done by applying online...expressing interest in a particular animal...phone calls...a home visit and the rescue matching you to an appropriate dog.
Battersea has very few dogs...or cats... at the moment
Here are current lab/lab cross available with the Dogs Trust
Which part of the country are your parents in and are they able to travel to collect a new canine friend? (I've driven a lady from Suffolk to Derby to help her rescue an English Setter. If your parents are able to travel similar distances, it would widen the options open to them).
please make sure that your parents understand that because they get another black lab it won't guarantee it will be anything like their old dog in character or behaviour. Excuse me if I am saying what they know but I have got friends who are involved in rescue and who fidn it a real problem that people will want another dog the same as the one they lost and are shocked and disappointed to find a dog who looks the same whose character is totally different. My own dogs were litter sibs, same mum same dad, brought up together and totally different in character.
I'd never got for a dog that looked like my last one, they are all individual in their personalities and as for looks, I'd far rather go for something totally different, as one looking the same would be far too painful.
