Drug use and beliefs.
25 Answers
Does anyone here think there is any link between what someone believes in a religious sense and their outlook on drug use? For example someone of a religious persuasion may be against drugs because they think God would be against them, whereas an atheist may not worry so much about drug use as they realise you may as well do everything you can whilst here on earth, as once you die you can't do anything else. Do you have an opinion on drug use and do you think it is swayed by your beliefs. I would be particularly interested if any atheists were against drug use and their reasoning.

'behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.'
so this would include cannabis, opium poppies, mushrooms.....
why would the religious say 'drugs are baaad'?
I agree to a certain point (glossing over the fact that mushrooms are not fruit of the tree) but,
Eve disobeyed and ate an apple. The message is clear: Nothing wrong with heroin, cocaine, ecstacy, crack or meth! Apple crunchers are the cause of all the misery on this earth and are doomed to everlasting fire. Think on this, Apple crunchers, next time you take a bite reflect on the destination of your immortal soul!

Beliefs about the consequences of drug use can be categorised in two ways, viz. whether they are (i) positive or negative and (ii) short-term or long-term. The literature suggests that such beliefs are more closely related to behaviour if the focus is on personal use and with reference to specific circumstances.
