Over the last two weeks or so they seem to be particularly hungry. How long does an anti mosquito coil last before it needs replacing and is there anything , in the way of sprays or cream, that might keep them away?

Deet spray.
mozzies
anything with DEET in it

(diethyl thingey toluamide)
A baseball bat!
I have been using Smidge with great success. Unfortunately for me it looks like I might be one of the teeny tiny percentage of folk who can't tolerate it. Plan is to get over the symptoms (headache and nausea) and try it again to see if it was correlation or causation.
Sunny Dave recommended Skin So Soft from Avon. Although it is advertised as mozzie repellent he says it works as one.

Can a mod please remove my link.
LB it doesn't show your details if that is what you are worried about?
That's exactly what I'm worried about Woof as it does when I click on it but I know that doesn't always mean everyone else can. Thank you for letting me know.
you are welcome :) Amazon does it too and yes it used to worry me.
Dave has started spraying flies and mozzies with a little squirt of Skin so Soft to instantly slow them down for a quick death.
We have two windows at the end of the kitchen. He accidentally sprayed one window and though he wiped it off we noticed that that window was getting no flies on it unlike the other.
Now window frames, windows and doors are wiped around with SsoS and our kitchen is almost bug free.
Avon SSS and a combination of if you like Incognito Lemon Eucalyptus oil from Holland & Barrett
Works for me. Better than the jungle formula chemicals.
malagabob - I don't use them myself, but I thought you had to set light to mosquito coils.
Ladybirder no details shown when I click on link. If you think about it, your ID likely to show when you look because computer / Avon knows it's you.
Sorry, malagabob. It wasn't your post that I was referring to but the OP.

I was wrong to say 'coil". The device I had in mind fits into an electric socket. You put a tablet into it and I guess heat generated by the electric warms the tablet and releases whatever it is that the mosquitos don't like.
We use Skin so Soft on our horses and its much more effective than the chemical alternatives. I believe the British Army issue it to troops too.
I can't see any of your guilty secrets on it, ladybirder
Phew!
