Why is it that when you go out drinking and you have a kitty, it is cheaper, last longer and yet drink more than if you buy drinks in rounds?

i think that if there is no kitty, there is always someone who needs the toilet when its their round. also it probably lasts longer cause the person responsible for it cant be bothered going to the bar every 5 mins !!!
