Many thanks, Shaneystar2, Neberacrossword et al for your help.
Some HINTS now for the last few to get me on to the theme, thanks again!

ACROSS
24 Irishman backed Irish quadruped (5) : ?A?E?

DOWN:
14 Charming tailless horned beast (5): T?K??
19 Stop bream swimming (5 ): EMB?? (EMBAR )?
35 Designer soldier clothes leader of unit confined to camp (5):
G?C??

19. Yes.
24 Your E is wrong. You need a common three letter word, name, for an Irishman and a usual two-letter abbreviation for Irish.
15. A colloquial word for 'charming', with the last letter dropped (tailless) gives a horned beast.

Hope you manage the theme this week. It was good fun, worth discovering on your own!

Thanks for the hints, Neveracrossword! I hope I'll not need hints to the hints, hehehehe!
Matakari, if you need hints to the hints it might be time to throw in the towel!
The first song made me laugh ! lol
Teacher, me too! That's one of the reasons for hoping Matakari won't need help with the theme this week!

Thanks, all! After a refreshing break. I'm back, but not ready to throw in the towel! I've got 3 song titles talking about trees, falling in love and rain. The first set of titles are eluding me, but I'll get them!
Good to hear you're persevering, Matakari. The songs you have already should mean that the last one can be tracked down. The name of the lyricist is invaluable...

I've got it now! I live and learn, and I'm no longer at sea with this one
who loves his spinach! Many thanks again, and have a safe and peaceful weekend!
Thanks, Matakari. I was a bit concerned when your previous post mentioned a 'set of titles' and you said you were determined to get 'them'!
Thanks matakari et al for all the questions and answers. I found this x word v challenging.
