It's depressing when not only do you fail to solve the clue, but you can't work it out even when you have the answer. Please put me out of my misery.

Reserve novel initially looked for here? Ans Bookshelf. I can get the reserve=book but no further.
Arrival of wrong plane could be such a flop. Ans Belly landing. Is it that a wrong plane means a plane with a landing gear fault?

1. Looks like it's "cheered +up" = "got happier" as a sort of weird cryptic/double definition
2. Book + "She" +l[ooked] f[or].
3. I think it means plane as in flat surface, in the sense that a belly landing is when you hit the water at the wrong angle (the "planes" are out of alignment). Not sure, though.
