Bake-Off This Year

Is it me, or does the baking seem not up to the usual standards?
The brownies tonight...what were they thinking???

I wonder if they’re somehow too relaxed and not so competitive because they were all living together?

I also wondered if living together has changed the dynamics. They are friends...not competitors.

They definitely seem far less competent than previous years contestants. Looks like a lottery so far.

Without being mean to the contestants, I wonder how many of them were ‘second choice’ - some of the original contestants must have dropped out because they couldn’t/wouldn’t leave home for so long.

The Brownies were diabolical - a total shambles.

You can't go wrong with Nigella's everyday Brownies, but Nadiya did some incredible looking ones the other day :-)

I thought the same, the standard this year is very weak. Even the Star Baker doesn't really have a perfect round. I couldn't believe it when they all messed up the brownies!!

They all tried to do too much...and good brownies do not need dressing up. I knew it was going downhill when I saw upside down fig brownies...

I've made some brownies in the past and they're quite easy to make.

They did look pretty dire.
