The Economy Is Now Just As Important As The Risk Of The Virus.
It's alright for all these scientists and politicians pushing for harsher lock downs, they are on the public payroll, they don't have to worry about paying the bills and losing their jobs. It's about time they took a broader view of the implications. I don't know about anyone else but I am starting to get a little bit wound up when I hear them going on about it. I have never been one to support civil disobedience but I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that it might be the only way and when I see the young defying the rules I can't help but have a little sympathy as it is them whose lives will be affected for years to come.

Indeed. As I keep saying, a totally different strategy is required. All that scientists can come up with is various schemes to lock everybody away from contacting everybody else and all the politicians do is simply to agree with them. It is absolutely outrageous that vast numbers of the population are prevented from seeing their relatives and at some time,...

////Yes but the science isn't showing this as a permanent solution because they don't know one. Should we all carry on like this for another year, 2 years??///
Correct and the alternative, that of Herd Immunity has been mainly discredited....certainly in the USA and Sweden.
Contact me in 10 years time (lol) and I will tell you if the right decisions were made.

^^^We impose the one that doesn't result in hundreds of thousands job losses, thousands of business failures and a totally fubarred economy.
Protect the old and the vulnerable (many of whom don't want protection), the Covphobics and can stay hidden away, but for everybody else it just has to be business as usual.

Dundee moving to level 3 from Monday morning. Hospital already saying they can't cope with many more patients. All cinemas closed, theatres closed, can't get a GP appointment, grandchildren can't go back to Uni etc etc. I'm coping OK even though I live on my own, but know many who are not. Can't be helping the nation's mental health.
It not a matter of choice, we can't choose to have it or not.... We can only risk manage our lives. Our freedom may be someone else's fatal or life ruining infection. There are so many out there not obeying the simple guidelines on social distancing, now getting aggressive when challenged, they all seem to know someone who had it and is fine, it's their right to freedom etc etc etc. They don't allow for those who want the right to go about their essential activity with minimised risk.
As a result the trade off of control v economy is going to be an impossible conundrum and no one has a definitive solution. We have evidence that catching Covid doesn't confer lasting immunity, so herd immunity isn't a way out until we have effective vaccines and even more problematic, people accept them.
Thinking the unthinkable I think the way to normality is the sacrifice of the vulnerable, not treating those for whom there is statistical low success rates, age capping hospital admission, or at least ITU intervention. After all its already accepted that some patients with other conditions are not for high level treatment and no one seems to make an issue. Going back to an acceptance that the old, frail and already long term sick die.
