Trying to remove a carpet from a concrete floor.
God only knows what its stuck down with, currently using a hammer and chisel to lift it a small piece at a time.
Any advice...
1) on how to lift it more easily
2) on how to remove sticky residue on floor.

Any advice appreciated,
Thanks.

'Budgie Smugglers' .. you cant say that, there are ladies present !
The carpet was contract fitted. By that I mean stuck down all over. A carpet fitter would slice into smaller pieces and use a long bladed tool somewhat like a hoe to remove carpet. As a carpet fitter for many years I’ve encountered many such jobs. Also a spade or wide shovel speeds up the work. I’ve never used chemicals, just elbow grease.
Alava, only with a smoking jacket. Otherwise it's too ... gawd!
David, in your career, have you glued a carpet down then? If so why would you do that? Just askin'
Well Tilly2 contract flooring is usually fitted in office and shopping environments. It’s stuck down to prolong wear and to prevent any uplift by rucking up. Edges lifting up would become hazardous to foot traffic and accidents.
So we used F3 or F44 adhesives and heavy rollers for secured adhesion.
Thanks for explaining, David. I was thinking only about domestic carpets. I didn't give offices, schools and other public buildings a thought.
