I wonder if the lockdown will indeed end 2dec. Or if it will be extended. My guess is they will extend it till just before Christmas.... then give people a week or so break before imposing again.

I have no stats to back this ... it’s just a thought in my mind

Bearing in mind I am elderly and extremely vulnerable, I think NJ talks the most sense re Covid. //...but a still cant see an option other than to say lets just lock all vunerables up and maybe let them die without cluttring up are haspitals,//

But if you lock them up they won't be able to catch the virus will they? Or are you suggesting that they be locked up to die of malnutrition? Or am I missing something?
Thats my point. So your saying we SHOULD lock up the vunerables??? Ban them from going shopping or meeting peopel- family ect? Some ABers say we should be focusing on the vunerables but dont actualy say what that would entale
I think that you are missing something NJ.
It would be practically impossible to isolate a whole community plus care workers plus support staff..for how long? What age groups, over 60,s 70,s 80,s?
Concentration camps perhaps.
Good luck with that line of management.

Er...no!

You don't have to tell me! I was commenting on this:

I was trying to understand how the suggestion of locking them up equated with "leaving them all to die". Gosh, this is hard work sometimes!

To be clear - I don't advocate locking anybody up at any time. I don't advocate closing huge swathes of the economy at any time. I have, from the beginning advocated "targeted protection" for those of the vulnerable who want it. It would be proper shielding - not the pathetic effort that was made last time ("stay indoors and get somebody to do your shopping if you can") - with comprehensive facilities to care for those who should not go out and who don't want to. It could be paid for using the money that has been used to pay people who are not vulnerable to sit at home whilst their employer's business goes down the kharzi.

It is senseless to pay a 25 year old in North Devon to sit at home because the shop he works in has been forcibly closed while a 75 year old asthmatic living in Nottingham or Liverpool has to go to Tesco's for a weekly shop.

No I am far from clear and as for these "comprehensive facilties " that you mention, I know not what you may be considering and how they may provide the superior protection of which you speak.
To be clear, the deficiency of perception lies with my intellect rather than your failure to convince.
OH NO---don't cancel your Christmas. Carry on as you have always done. Don't give a thought to all the Covid sufferers . Do you think the virus is going on holiday too??
Selfish ,thoughtless attitudes by some people are not helping matters. We are never going to get rid of the virus .
Think of all those people who won't be celebrating because their lives have been terminated. Spare a thought for that poor elderly man who has just lost his wife and two sons to the virus. All within a few days of each other.
Christmas ,as far as I am concerned can be cancelled this year.

Well done NJ, you are the one on this subject who always makes the most sense. Let the doom and gloom merchants carry on if it makes them happy, they're always good for a giggle.

Only a minority of the population needs to to take stringent measures to avoid catching the virus. Yes, some "non-vulnerable" people may suffer severe symptoms and may even die. But people of all ages contract all sorts of ailments and some of them die. It is not possible to protect everybody from everything that they may stand a small chance of becoming seriously ill or dying from. Everybody else should take sensible but reasonably practical precautions but neither they nor the economy need to suffer the draconian measures that have been taken in the past few months.

At the start of Lockdown 1.0 the vulnerable were basically told to stay indoors and make their own arrangements to survive. They needed supplies and many of them needed medical treatment but the majority of them had to venture out to get both. Despite what the major supermarkets would have you believe, no special arrangements were made for them (apart from letting them into the shops for an hour's exclusive shopping in some places). For those who do usually shop online (which, in the vulnerable group, is probably the minority) the chances of getting a delivery slot was next to zero. For them it was either venture out (often on public transport as many of them do not drive) or starve. The government's advice, and the arrangements they put in place to help such people "stay safe" were frankly pathetic. It could not have been beyond their collective wits to organise a national programme of deliveries for these people. They found plenty of cash to pay people to sit at home because their employers' businesses had been forcibly closed. Some of it should have been used to help the people who needed to stay isolated and not lavished on those who didn't.
I didn’t hear any stories of people starving, or nearly starving in LD1.
NJ.
We are going around in circles debating each issue with boring repetition. We are in lockdown and that is what it is and give it a chance by complying.
I am carrying on as normal. My neighbour , recently lost her husband, is bedridden. I shop every day for her essentials.

I wear a mask and wash my hands after every outing.

I am prepared to forego Christmas family visits this year.

The farcical eat out to help out was a joke.
The govt must have known they had the money for an extension to lockdown. Would it have been better to have supported hospitality businesses and not had the eat out to help out scheme. Personally I think so.
NJ //Despite what the major supermarkets would you believe, no special arrangements were made for them //
Not true, at the same time as I got a letter from the NHS re shielding I got an e.mail from Tesco informing me that I had a priority spot fr delivery. The day after that I had a letter from the local council asking if I required food parcels to be delivered. All in all I found that adequate provisions had been made for a person who had to shield.
//All in all I found that adequate provisions had been made for a person who had to shield.//

Then you were lucky, Danny. I know quite a few people who are classed as "vulnerable" and none had any contact from anybody. Just out of interest, do you know where Tesco got the details that you were in a vulnerable group from? Did you get any deliveries from Tesco?
NJ, I think that,Tesco's got my name from the NHS,Apparently all supermarkets were given lists of vulnerable people.Yes, I got deliveries from Tesco and still do and I still get priority spots.
