Can't get of them. If an app is 'tapped ' then square moves to next app.

If you can get into 'Settings', go into 'Accessibility' and look for anything turned on there (and, obviously, turn it off).

With some Android phones, pressing 'Volume Up' and 'Volume Down' simultaneously can also toggle the feature on and off.
