im 46, nearly 47.
a couple of times int he last year i have had mini periods about 2 weeks after i finish one tht last for a couple of days. I know "irregular periods" are a sign of menopause, but i always assumed that meant longer gaps in between. Can i assume this is start of menopause or do i need to worry?

Perimenopause maybe. I am the same age as you, but just a blood test will tell you. Mine said no... but they can tell you definitely.

does it also feel weird to you to be "nearly 47"? Lol when i wrote that down i had to then check because it didn't sound right!
I will be in March lol. I only believe it when I check my year of birth lol.
I wouldn't worry but I would get a blood test

My Wife, a 40 year served Midwife, now retired, said the same thing as
Pixie, get the test.
The test is inconclusive as it only tests what shows up on the day of the test, hormones can fluctuate hourly at that time of life.
You’re nearly 47, hormones don’t last forever.

in all honesty i can't wait - i can't have children any more and periods just seem a major inconvenience!
I was wondering if i should worry as it's unexpected bleeding
At this moment, I wouldn't worry.
Irregular bleeding in the first 12 months of an assumed menopause is no big deal.
Blood test ? How will that help?
Give it another 6 months and providing that the bleeding doesn't increase and you don't get post costal bleeding or vaginal discharge, then that will solve your problem of peri menopause or menopause.
You need to get a blood test, but at this age is normal that organism is preparing for it, you can also know your approximately age when menopause starts asking you mother, most times ages are the same.
Can someone translate that last post into English please?
I understand it.

I'm the same age as you (ish) and luckily mine just stopped. Had about a month of night sweats and never had a period again. Bonus. My mother, as suggested above, was of a similar age when the menopause started.
