I have changed my Apple ID from hotmail to google but when I open up they always ask for the Hotmail password which I have forgotten and that is why I opted for the google account which I have set up. How can I change to google in the settings.
This maybe a bit scrambled and I apologise for that but would be thankful for any assistance

Are you talking about an ipad or computer?

Your Apple ID password is not the same as your email password. When you set up your AppleID you should have set up a new password.
